Designed for fire fighters, law enforcement, EMS, dispatchers, public works, and CERT/SAR, this 2 hr. workshop will cover important safety information to protect CERT members and the public in the event of a utility related emergency.
Topics that will be covered include:
- Identifying important components of natural gas and electric utility infrastructure and recognizing emergency conditions
- Using best practices to handle utility-specific emergencies and tactical considerations when on the scene of an emergency
- Identifying the dangers of step and touch potential, and avoiding contact with energized sources
- Responding to natural gas hazards and how to avoid dangers presented by migrating natural gas and secondary ignition sources
- Responding to electrical hazards and how to avoid dangers presented by down power lines, car-pole accidents and other energized sources
- How to utilize the First Responder website, which provides first responders secure access to free downloadable maps and information about natural gas transmission lines, natural gas storage facilities, and shut-off valves
- Gain knowledge about PG&E's updated natural gas emergency response plans and response checklists
