Event Description:
Fields Landing Tsunami Drill
The Fields Landing community will be holding a drill on Saturday, October 12 to practice tsunami evacuation. The facilitator, Kathy Moley, has invited CERT teams to assist with guiding the public to safe ground, out of the inundation zone. This is a critical element to Fields Landing tsunami evacuation planning. Kathy is a professional geologist who also lives in Fields Landing.
This is an excellent opportunity for CERT members. The responsibilities are to monitor the evacuation route, guide folks to appropriate safe ground, tally numbers of people and assist any of the professional responders as needed. Some of the agencies involved are National Weather Service, Humboldt Bay Fire, CHP, Sheriff's Office, Redwood Coast Tsunami Work Group, OES, PG&E, HAM radio, CalTrans.
If you are available to help:
1. Please contact Kathy Moley asap by email or phone to give her your name and cell phone number: [email protected], (707) 498-0801.
2. Stage at the Fields Landing boat ramp parking lot, foot of Railroad Ave, by 9:15 a.m. on Oct. 12, rain or shine.
3. Bring your CERT vest and hard hat. (Dress for weather)
4. If you are a licensed HAM, bring your handheld. The radio operators will be acting as communicators and you can listen in.
5. Drill starts at 10 a.m., with the tsunami siren and ends at approx. 11:30 a.m.
6. See map attached for an idea of the evacuation route and staging area.
